Rescues
We have a small rescue operation here at Patch Wood Farm. We occasionally come across horses that are in need of a new home, are in danger of slaughter, or are victims of neglect. We do our best to take these horses in and rehab them, both physically and mentally, in order to find them loving, permanent homes. Here are some of our 2010 rescue projects:
Kathleen's first horse Luna is back home with Kathleen at Patch Wood Farm! Luna is a 29 year old Argentine Thoroughbred. She came back to us in horrible shape and we are working to get her fat and happy once again. She is as sweet as pie and is enjoying retirement while being pampered by our students
Diesel is a three year old American Warmblood gelding for lease or sale.
He has been lightly started under saddle and has a disposition to die for! Gorgeous movement and free jumps with great form. Will make someone a great eventer, field hunter, or pleasure mount. He should mature to around 15.2h. Looking to free lease him out with the option to buy or sell outright to a great home. He is great with other horses and is a super easy keeper. Has been started on the trails and is never spooky.
Great home only for Diesel!
Salvador is actually a donkey that was saved for $30 from an auction in Pennsylvania where he was destined to meet a terrible fate. He is the sweetest donkey in the world, and although he is the resident "problem child" with almost weekly vet visits for one thing or another, he has his forever home at Patch Wood Farm.
Rasta came to us with very little handling; we were barely able to get her on the trailer home. She was on her way to the slaughter house as well, but we saw potential in this girl and took her home. After a couple months of love she turned into a great pony and is now living with three boys that adore her in Western Massachusetts.
Ben came to us in horrible shape. He had just about given up on life and was about to be loaded onto a truck bound for the slaughter house before we saved him in March of 2010. Now, three months later, he is living the life of luxury with Jennifer in NY and has the best home we could have ever asked for!
We found Teddy online. He was the last horse left at the New Jersey Killpen one Saturday in February. With the help of a couple of our online friends, we purchased Teddy, who we were told was a 2 year old Perch draft cross baby. As it turned out, he was a 5 year old Thoroughbred, whom we have turned into a star polo pony. Teddy scored three goals in his first official polo tournament, 5 weeks into the season.
